Top 10's [Jan. 5th, 2006|11:16 pm]
[music |Jens Lenkman - Black Cab]

I made up two top ten lists for '05; one for movies, and one for albums. Keep in mind, the lists are completely bias. I just went with what I liked the best, not necessarily what was actually the best. I still want to catch The New World and Brokeback Mountain to round off my movie list. I want to see Brokeback, but I'd more than likely see it with another guy and the prospect of buying a ticket is laughable...especially since I'd wear a cowboy hat. I'll throw up some reasons for the choices this weekend, but for now:

Albums:

1) Bright Eyes – I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning

2) Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

3) Architecture in Helsinki – In Case We Die

4) Wolf Parade – Apologies for the Queen Mary

5) The Magic Numbers – The Magic Numbers

6}Bright Eyes – Digital Ash in a Digital Urn

7) Art Brut – Bang Bang Rock and Roll

8) Franz Ferdinand – You Could Have It So Much Better

9) The Mountain Goats – The Sunset Tree

10)Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

Movies:

1) Match Point

2) Me and You and Everyone We Know

3) Munich

4}Millions

5} Crash

6}Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

7}Grizzly Man

8) Murderball

9) Serenity

10} Melinda and Melinda

Oh and I found some of my friends on here to, aside from my two Florida dwelling cousin. I'll get to adding them.

Heavy Hitter [Nov. 12th, 2005|12:06 am]
[music |The Mountain Goats - Up the Wolves]

So my friend and I, Jonathan, finally finished our third movie. We've been working on this since the beginning of summer and its been ridiculously challenging. We (and by we, I mean mainly Jonathan) had to edit this movie about three times over due to ever mounting technical difficulties. Anyway, we're finally finished and I recently watched it on a big scree for the first time. My initial reaction: Ehh. Overall, I guess I'm a little disappointed as it didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped...but then what does? Still, its a massive leap forward for us as filmmakers, and I suppose that's really the idea.

While working on the movie the guy who edits/has all the technical equipment dropped out and left us with a bunch of worthless footage. Instead of being pissed off we decided to go ahead with the movie anyway, but we had to make a ton of concessions along the way. First of all we had to learn to edit (Again, mainly Jonathan), which sucks. Next, we switched to a way better quality cameras, so the movie is cut between a good and bad camera. Finally, I had to rewrite the movie based on the scenes we had already filmed (We couldn't do the old movie, because we lost too much time and an actor). In short, most of the plot was lost and our movie plays like a) my resume for becoming a music video director or b) montages loosely strung together. Plus, there are so many tiny problems that could easily be fixed...we're no going to, but they could be.

Anyway, I watched it with a friend today who laughed a decent amount, which is certainly encouraging. I think I've pretty much lost all perspective on the thing, so I can really only base my opinion on the opinion of others. Actually, that's not true, the movie is brilliant and I'm a genius. HEAVY HITTER 4: HIT EVEN HARDER coming soon as a slightly unfinished movie to a DVD player near you.

Also coming soon, an expanded friend's list. Hey Mike.

Thanks to the Jews... [Oct. 4th, 2005|10:46 pm]
[music |Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better]

I'd like to thank all the Jewish folk around the world for supplying me with a splendid holiday. Without them I would have missed out on a trip to Universal Studios, and more importantly, the opportunity to see witness movie magic; the tram ride. I must have been on the tram ride at Universal a hundred times throughout my life, and it never gets old. I could chart the trams progress over the last decade and map out the current route. You'd think think that after all this time I'd be over it, but there's something about touring that back lot that just seems special, like somehow, you're part of the movie making process. However, beyond the tram, Universal has little to offer, so my friends and I have taken to seeking out the Marx Brothers and watching them do whatever slapstick act they're using that day. Its almost like a game: "Spot the Marx". We're usually pretty successful, but we failed to find them this time, so we missed out on a bit of Groucho greatness.

We were going to see Thumbsucker too, but John opted out, so Jonathan and I headed to Oliver Twist instead. That was alright, nothing special, but Kingsley was good. Jonathan works at the local theatre, so movies are free; we see a lot of lame movies. If no ones paying, why not see Oliver Twist?

Anyway, I need to start adding some friends beyond my most excellent cousin, but then I'd have to do work, and frankly, I just don't feel like it...soon though.

Arrested Development [Oct. 4th, 2005|01:10 am]
[music |Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changing]

Arrested Development should be illegal. How the Emmy's said Raymond was a funnier is beyond me. I understand that it was the last year and all, but its no excuse for not giving AD the nod.

Bob LobLaw is genius.

So I've finally given in... [Sep. 26th, 2005|08:46 pm]
I never thought I'd get myself a livejournal, but here I am. Maybe this will keep me writing everyday, or at least every few days. I hear that people who want to write should write everyday, which makes sense, but what about people who want to do construction work? How do they practice? Do they go out and build a small building? What about aspiring firemen? Do they light their own fires and put them out? Or do they throw cats into trees and retrieve them? It'll be nice to practice everyday.
